Trans Urethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) is a procedure commonly used for the treatment of bladder cancer. During the TURBT procedure, the tumour is removed from the bladder wall with the help of a special device called an endoscope.
TURBT surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and the patient can go back home in a few hours after the procedure. The same procedure is also used for the diagnosis of bladder cancer.
During TURBT, an endoscope is inserted into the bladder of the patient, which then helps cut away the tumour from the wall bladder. The area of resection is then cauterized later with the help of special instruments.
The patients may experience certain discomfort after the procedure. Complete recovery after TURBT may take one to two weeks.
