ASD or Atrial Septal Defect is described as a hole that is present in the heart’s upper two chambers. Problems due to ASD closure, sometimes, do not show until adulthood.

The good news is ASD is rare in adults, since a child usually has the problem during birth and so when he/she reaches adulthood ASD closure or repair happens normally and the patient gets cured. ASD symptoms include exhaustion, shortness of breath, tiring quickly at the time of physical activity, build up fluid in ankles and feet, build up of fluid in lungs, etc.

ASD diagnosis is done by doctors by performing physical examination and tests. However, the signs of ASD defects are not always obvious and so the defects are not diagnosed until the baby reaches adulthood.
