Skin cancer is one of the most common form of cancer around the world. In this case, the cancer cells form in the tissues of the skin. The cancer begins in the epidermis, which consist of three types of cells – melanocytes, basal cells and squamous cells.

There are different types of skin cancer and different treatment is administered for the treatment of each type of cancer. Skin cancer can be melanoma or non-melanoma and the latter is further divided into squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. Melanoma is more likely to spread to other parts of the body and must be treated in a timely manner.

Skin cancer treatment options include the use of chemotherapy, biologic therapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, surgery and photodynamic therapy. As a part of the surgical treatment for skin cancer, the tumor is either exised, shaved off or electrodessicated after curettage. The abnormal cancer tissue may even by cryopreserved as a part of the surgery.
