A type of congenital heart disease or coarctation of the aorta is best treated with coarctoplasty. Coarctoplasty procedure involves insertion of a stent so as to treat recoarctation. The process is associated with several cardiac abnormalities such as ventricular septic defect, complex cardiac deformations, bicuspid aortic valve and patent ductus arteriosus.

Balloon coarctoplasty is also another form of surgery that uses a small tool which is inserted through the veins. When the catherter goes through the veins, the balloon is blown up that eventually helps to open the narrowed artery.

The ultimate objective of the procedure is to reach oxygen-filled blood to the heart without any obstruction which was earlier caused by narrowed passeways. Coarctoplasty accounts for almost 5 to 8 percent of all types of congenital heart disease.
