EPS and RFA procedure is performed to detect abnormal heart conduction and rhythm. EPS is electrophysiology and it is done by inserting small electrodes into the heart. These electrodes catherter are inserted through the veins via the groin up to the neck. One end of the electrode catherter is attached to a switch box which is connected to multi channel monitor. The monitor records electrograms from the several parts of the heart.
In the process, a signal generator is used to produce electrical signals to the parts of the heart to check if fast and automatic heart rhythm is induced. Once the abnormal heart rhythm is detected, RFS or radiofrequency catherter ablation is used to deliver the frequency energy to the exact spot where superficial burns are produced. This helps to eliminate pathway of conduction.
