When a person has been diagnosed with blocked or narrowed coronary arteries, an angioplasty is required to clear the blockage and ensure restoration of normal blood flow through the vessels and arteries to the heart muscles.

Angioplasty procedure follows insertion of a thin tube (a catherter) through incision in the leg or arm and guiding it to the heart. Balloon angioplasty uses the same procedure, only that a balloon is fitted at the end of the tube which is inflated when it reaches the blockage site to remove the obstruction or clotting.

Coronary agioplasty is another procedure that uses coronary stent to clear off clogs in the artery passages. The ultimate objective is to keep the passageway open in future if stenting is required again.
