Proximal urethroplasty procedure refers to an open surgery conducted to repair a stricture in the urethra close to the bladder. Before the procedure, the patient is typically required to stay in the hospital before the day of the surgery.
The proximal urethroplasty surgery is performed sunder the influence of general anesthesia. During the surgery, an incision is made over the stricture and the cut is either closed with urethra attached to the catheter or a piece of tissue derived from the inner cheek of the patient is attached to widen the urethra. A drain is inserted and another catheter is placed in the bladder via abdomen.
After proximal urethroplasty surgery, the patient is expected to stay in the hospital until full recovery. The drain is removed after two or three days.
