All about the Hemis Festival Tour.

The Hemis Festival is one of Ladakh’s most vibrant and spiritually significant events, celebrated annually at the Hemis Monastery in Ladakh. In 2026, the festival is scheduled for 25th & 26th June, marking the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava also known as Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tantric Buddhism in Tibet.  The Hemis Festival is celebrated to honor his birth anniversary and to commemorate his spiritual teachings and influence on the region’s rich cultural heritage

The festival features the sacred masked dance (Cham Dance) is performed by monks along with long horns, musical drums and cymbals. During the festival, lot of stalls filled with varieties of souvenirs and handicrafts are stored. You can shop and purchase a variety of products which can provide a memento from your trip. It certainly creates a colorful ambience.

  1. Day 1 22 Jun’26 (Mon) - Arrive in Delhi

    Arrival, immigration and customs formalities, meeting and escort at the Delhi airport by a representative of Minar Travels and transfer to the hotel after the meet & greet at the airport and transfer to hotel (Hotel room available from noon 1400 hours)

  2. Day 2 23 Jun’26 (Tue) - Delhi- Leh (By Flight)

    In time transfer to airport to board flight to Leh

     

    On arrival in Leh, assistance at the airport and transfer to the Hotel at Leh.

     

    Evening can stroll along the local market, however will suggest to take rest in hotel to acclimatize to the rarefied air at the high altitude.

    Central Asian Museum 

    The quiet courtyard beckons history and the fortified structure stores relics from the ever-lasting escapade of traditions that have transpired here over time…Bringing to life the Tibetan, Kashmiri, Baltistani and Ladhaki origins of the land.

     

    La Las Café 

    An antiquated, mud-brick café, with a history rooted in romanticism! Andre Alexander, a revered historian and traveller built the innate structure for his Tibetan wife, La La and it stands true to the tale of their love, long after they’ve been gone.

     

    Munshi House: 

    Explore the endless, prehistoric perspectives that lie within the original residence of the King’s tax collector! Proudly known as the Munshi House, its primeval kitchen still stores the original earthen pots and the interior is a profound reflection of Ladakhs vernacular architecture.

     

    Leh Palace 

    An audacious, architectural figure to which we all look up, the masonry walls of Leh Palace have watched over Old Town like a protective parent since the 16thcentury.

    Erected without machines or modern engineering, they have forbidden time from diminishing their age-old glory, keeping their perpendicular perfection intact to this very day.

     

    Tsemo Namgyal

    The walls of Tsemo, radiate a forgotten light. Fortified in celebration of an ancient victory, yet their presence today is quiet and elusive, that of a humble bystander who retains a distant dignity while forfeiting all the glory.

  4. Day 4 25 Jun’26 (Thu) - Leh (Hemis Festival)

    Morning proceed to Hemis Festival with picnic lunch- which is dedicated to Padmasambhava, where you witness a series of scenes in which the lamas, robed in gowns of rich, brightly coloured brocade and sporting masks sometimes bizarrely hideous, parade in solemn dance and mime around the huge flag pole in the center of the courtyard to the plaintive melody of the Shawn. Hemis festival is one of the most famous monastic festivals in June to commemorate birth of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tantric Buddhism in Tibet. The sacred dance drama of the life and mission is performed wearing facial masks and colourful brocades robes.

     

    Evening return to hotel.

  5. Day 5 26 Jun’26 (Fri) - Leh - Uleytopko (By road, 70 Kms / 02 hour drive)

    Morning drive to west of Ladakh to Uleytopko.  En-route short stopover at Magnetic hill road a so-called ”gravity hill” located on the Leh-Kargil highway, at a height of 11,000 feet above sea level. It is an amazing small stretch of the road where the vehicle moves on its own on a small slope, in both front & reverse direction.

     

    Later short stop at Sangam, to see the 2 rivers with totally different colours merging, one can see Sangam clearly from the main road (which is a little above the actual confluence). Later continue drive to Alchiʹs large temple complex founded in the 11th Century is regarded as one of the most important Buddhist Centres in Ladakh and a jewel of monastic skill. The Likir Monastery or Gompa is one of the oldest and well-maintained monasteries in Ladakh. The monastery is located in Likir village and is believed to have been in existence since 11th century Lamayuru Monastery, one of the earliest seats of lamaistic learning and most picturesque monastery in Ladakh.

  6. Day 6 27 Jun’26 (Sat) Uleytokpo

    Morning full day excursion to Tar Village, located in Ladakh’s Sham Valley, is a high-altitude, self-sustaining village accessible only by foot, known for its unique culture, traditions, and responsible tourism practices, recently recognized as one of India’s best tourism villages.

     

    Later visit Rizong Gompa. One of the few monasteries in Ladakh which houses women monks called “Chomos”. Its small Gompa situated deep inside a narrow valley.

     

    Return back to Uleytopko

  7. Day 7 28 Jun’26 (Sun) Uleytokpo-Leh (By road, 70 Kms / 02 hour drive)

    Morning depart Uleytokpo for Leh and on arrival check-in at hotel

  8. Day 8 29 Jun’26 (Mon) Leh to Shey/Thiksey/Hemis – Leh (11562 i.e. 3524 mts)

    Morning visit Monasteries of Shey, Thiksey, and Hemis.

     

    Shey, It was the ancient capital of Ladakh and even after Singge Namgyal built the more imposing palace at Leh, the kings continued to regard Shey, as their real home. The importance which was attached to Shey – the seat of Ladakh’s heartland – is attested by the enormous number of Chorten about the village, particularly around the palace complex and barren plain to the north of the road.

     

    Thiksey is one of the largest and most impressive Gompas. There are several temples in this Gompa containing images, stupas and exquisite wall paintings. It also houses a two – storied statue of Buddha which has the main prayer hall around its shoulder.

  9. Day 9 30 Jun’26 (Tue) - Leh-Delhi by flight

    Afternoon visit Bangla Sahib Gurudwara: a prominent house of worship for the Sikh community. This 17th-century shrine is dedicated to the memory of Guru Har Krishan, who was the eighth Sikh Guru. It has stunning golden dome and beautiful architecture. People from all religion are welcome to enter the temple and learn about Sikhism.  They also serve langar (free food) from the community kitchen and everyone is welcome to help as per their choice in the kitchen or other chores at the Gurudwara
