When you reach Chennai on the first day, a company representative from our end will welcome you and accompany you to the hotel. You spend the afternoon exploring Chennai. You sightseeing list will have places like the San Thome Cathedral, Fort St. George and Marina Beach. Since temples are one of the main focuses of this tour, you also get to visit the stunning Mylapore temple and return to the hotel to stay overnight.
As soon as you complete your breakfast you get started for Mahabalipuram and check-in the hotel as you arrive. You go out in the afternoon exploring this place. Mahabalipuram is popular for its Shore Temple dating back to 7th century, quaint rock cut temples and its pristine beach. Located on Bay of Bengal shore, the place has earned accolades for its prominent seaport dating back to 1st century. Temple building was one of the major activities in this town. Spend the afternoon by heading towards the 7 pagoda pattern shore temples that are beautifully lashed by sea waves. Other sites include the ancient animal figurines, 7 temple chariots and the monolithic monuments that are reminiscent of the Dravidian influence. All these architecture belonged to the time of Narasimhavarman 1 (AD 630 68). After your sightseeing you return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
You have to cover a distance of 140 kms in 4 hours after you complete your breakfast to reach Pondicherry and explore Kanchipuram on the way. Register in your hotel as you arrive.
According to history, Kanchipuram was called the “Golden City of Thousand Temples” and is also an oldest town that India has. The town is popular for its temple architecture and weaving artistry. Being one of the 7 holy Indian cities, the town is associated with Lord Vishnu and Shiva. When you are here, head to the Kailashnath Temple, Ekambareshwar Temple, the Vaikunthaperumal Temple and the Kamakshi Temple that dates back to the 7th – 8th century. Weaving skills that is still prevalent in this town, dates back to the times of the Pallavas and today the town gains prominence for ethnic saris with ornate embellishments.
On the other hand, till the 1950’s Pondicherry happened to be an outpost of the famous French maritime kingdom. It has its own essence that distinguishes it from Tamil Nadu in essence. It is a chaotic coastal town that has two prominent sides to it. First the ancient white town replete with classy French restaurants and houses and second the administrative buildings along with the Black Town in west canal carrying the Indian impact. On your afternoon sightseeing spree at Pondicherry, visit places like the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Eglise De Sacre Coeur De Jesus. Don’t miss Auroville, ‘City of Dawn’ designed by Roger Arger, a French architect on a revolutionary concept in urban living and education. Return to your hotel to spend the night.
Here you travel for 6 hours post your breakfast and after covering a distance of 180 kms you reach Tanjore. Use the afternoon to explore it. Tanjore reputedly used to be the capital city of Chola Empire, dating 10th to 14th century. Here the king Raja Chola was known for his supremacy and was said to establish 74 great temples, named the Brahadeeswarar known for its high tower and sacred inner sanctum. The tower goes up to a height of 62 meters and atop the dome is a granite block that weighs about 80 tons. Post this you detour back to your hotel to spend the night.
This is a total journey of 175 kms to be covered in about 6 hours. Once you complete your breakfast you start for Madurai and stopover at Trichy on the way. Here you explore the famous Rock Fort Temple that is 273 feet in height. There is a steep staircase that has been cut inside the rock which leads to the Fort. As you walk on you will first encounter the ruins that dates back to 1772. Later on you will chance upon the Mathrubhuteshwarer Shrine that is attributed to Lord Shiva. As you go atop the hill, there is ‘Uchhi Pillayar Koil’, a reverent Ganesh Temple with a panoramic view of the city. From here you carry on with your drive to Madurai and sign-in at your hotel for an overnight stay.
Start your day in Madurai by visiting the famous Meenakshi Temple, the largest Indian temple complex. Built in 17th century the temple structure is 790 feet broad and 46 feet long. In terms of form, it happens to be a twin shrine having a rectangular shape. The southern temple is attributed to Meenakshi, Shiva’s consort and the other to Lord Shiva himself. The prominent attraction here is the Thousand Pillars that dates back to 16th century and is a testimony to skilful craftsmanship. From here head to the Tirumala Nayak that is an architectural excellence of Nayaks and blends in Saracen and Hindu elements. The elaborate roofed arcade is assisted by a stoned pillar which is 48 feet in height. If you are visiting Meenakshi Temple in the evening then stop to experience the holy ceremony at 9:00pm that happens amidst temple music and holy prayers. From here return to your hotel and spend the night.
Complete your breakfast and be all set to drive towards Periyar and be at the hotel as you arrive. Periyar boasts of famous Cardamom Hills in scenic Western Ghats. Here you also get to be at Thekkady that is the biggest Indian wildlife reserve. Filled with rich flora and fauna, this is a nature’s treasure trove. Towards the afternoon opt in for a boat cruise on the lake and gaze at the Periyar wildlife sanctuary. Simply put, Periyar is a man-made lake established beside a dam on the Periyar River. Amongst the wildlife you get to have a glimpse of the tigers, black buck and the Asiatic deers. From here you return to hotel to spend the night.
Today’s journey will have you cross about 135 kms in 4 hours. You leave for Kumarakom in the morning and check-in your hotel as you reach. This place is a stunning backwater village resting on the enchanting shores of Vembanad Lake and has quaint cottages and meandering waterways. You spend the night at hotel.
Post your breakfast in the morning you take the houseboat to spend the night on the backwaters. The experience is going to be surreal. You can also take on the conventional rice boats, termed as “Kettuvallam” and start your journey amidst the scenic small lakes and backwaters. You get to soak in Kerala’s scenic bliss. Watch the everyday course of life and the activities that the localities do. The one bedroom house is a common sight here along with a lounge. The meals served to you are fresh and are cooked on board. Recline at the sundeck, sip coconut water and gaze at the surrounding. This is the perfect way to unwind and have a great overnight stay at the houseboat.
Once you complete your breakfast in the morning make a move to Alleppey and later drive down to Cochin. As you reach Cochin carry on with the city tour by arriving at Mattanacherry Dutch Palace. This is the place where you will find stunning murals painted on wooden walls. From here you can head to the Church of St. Francis and the Jewish Synagogue, dating back to the 16th century. Roam around casually in Fort Cochin area and take a glimpse of the Chinese fishing nets that dates back to the 14th century and has been introduced by the Chinese. After this you return to your hotel and stay overnight.
From your hotel at Cochin you check-out at 12:00 hours and then you be transferred to the airport to take your flight for the next destination.

We had a very nice trip and we enjoyed of what the company arranged for us. The sightseeining of city and shopping all Minar guiders were kind and warm & sympathies like most Indian people that are met during last week. The driver that took us to Agra and Delhi also had Very patience. We are thankful of every thing. We were going to miss India and hope to come back again. I want to thank you for arranging our norooz tour on the behalf of all group. We had a very good start at the airport, our hotel on Cochin was very good and had beautiful garden & nice pool. We enjoyed the city tour & water fall and loved folk dance. Our driver and his aid & our tour leader were very helpful & nice people. I believe Zuri hotel is the best hotel that we visited in this trip and also house boat tour was really good. Leela hotel was realy the high end hotel in kerala with nice view and pool and the room also was excellent with arabian see view . We all realy enjoy our visit elephant camp& jungle. Again we end our trip to india with great memories!
